Banga Bazar is a hub of economic activity and a source of livelihood for many people in the city. It sells a variety of goods, from clothing and accessories to electronics and household items. The market attracts customers from all over the country and beyond.
The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit and spread quickly due to the flammable materials stored in the market. It took more than 12 hours for the firefighters to bring it under control. The damage was estimated at over 10 billion taka (about 118 million US dollars).
