On Thursday, December 9th, 2022, a massive fire broke out at Banga Bazar, one of the largest wholesale markets in Dhaka. The blaze destroyed hundreds of shops and warehouses, leaving thousands of businessmen in despair. Many of them lost everything they had worked for in their lives.
Banga Bazar is a hub of economic activity and a source of livelihood for many people in the city. It sells a variety of goods, from clothing and accessories to electronics and household items. The market attracts customers from all over the country and beyond.
The fire was caused by an electrical short circuit and spread quickly due to the flammable materials stored in the market. It took more than 12 hours for the firefighters to bring it under control. The damage was estimated at over 10 billion taka (about 118 million US dollars).
The government has promised to provide compensation and support to the affected businessmen, but many of them are still struggling to cope with the loss and trauma. They need urgent help to restart their businesses and restore their dignity.
That’s why a bank account has been opened to collect donations from anyone who wants to help the Banga Bazar fire victims. The account number is (0200094066031) and it belongs to the Dokan Malik Samity (shop owners’ association) of Banga Bazar.
The money collected from this account will be distributed among the affected businessmen according to their needs and losses. The Dokan Malik Samity president, Helal Uddin, said that they will also hand over some of the funds to the prime minister’s private industry and investment adviser Salman F Rahman and Dhaka North City Corporation mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh, who have visited the fire-hit market and expressed their solidarity.
If you want to help the Banga Bazar fire victims rebuild their lives and businesses, please consider making a donation to this bank account. Every little bit counts and will make a difference. Thank you for your generosity and compassion.
