In today’s fire, 5,000 traders in 6 markets around Dhaka’s Banga Bazar have been affected, said State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Md. Enamur Rahaman. He also said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will cooperate in the rehabilitation of the affected traders.
He told reporters this information after a meeting with City Corporation Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh at Buriganga Hall of the Mayor’s Office in Dhaka South City Corporation this afternoon (Tuesday).
The state minister said that about six markets, including Banga Bazar, were affected by the fire today. As we have come to know, 5000 small traders have been completely affected. They bought many goods on the occasion of Eid. They are completely destroyed. Although the police administration managed to recover and remove many of the goods, they were still damaged.
Stating that the cause of the fire is not yet known, he said, the fire service team is working. An inquiry committee is formed after any accident occurs. We will know after the investigation. Besides, the Prime Minister himself is coordinating the matter, monitoring it, and communicating with us all the time. The Prime Minister coordinated with all the members of various organizations.
The State Minister said that the Prime Minister has directed that he will work for the rehabilitation of the affected traders after the investigation and assessment of the damage. And we have given instructions from our ministry to the District Commissioner, they will pay Tk 15 thousand to each of the injured immediately.
He further said that a special team has been formed to treat the injured. We will describe this incident as an accident for now. I don’t think it would be right to give any specific opinion until the investigation report comes.
