Ignoring the fears, voting has started for the post of chairman in 28 unions of three Upazilas of Pabna and the post of mayor in one municipality. Sunday (November 28) will run from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. At this time long queues of voters were noticed in the polling stations. From morning, the center of Failjana Union of Chatmohar Upazila, Shorotnogor Senior, Kubasaki Primary School, Jagannathpur Government Primary School, Bazar Kendra, and several other areas were visited, with long queues of voters in front of the centers.
Ali Akhand came to vote at Jagannathpur Government Primary School. “I came to the center early in the morning to vote,” he said.
Kawsar Ahmed, presiding officer of the center, said security was adequate. The center has 2,880 voters.
Rajab Ali Pramanik was returning home after voting. “I was able to vote without any problems,” he said. We were very worried about whether we would be able to go to the polls or not. But I am coming to the polling station without any problem. I voted for the candidates of my choice.
Mili Akhter, who came to the polling station of Gunaigachha Union, said, “Even two days before the polling, many people are groaning in the hospital due to the clash of boat-independent candidates in our union.” From then on we feared we would not be able to go to the center. It feels good to come to the center in the morning.
Hanif Uddin, a boat candidate in Failjana Union, said, “Voters in my area are voting in a festive atmosphere.” He hoped that if the voters cast their votes properly, they would win by a huge margin.
Hafizur Rahman, a ‘rebel’ candidate from the same union, said hundreds of men and women were coming to the polls. Voting for preferred candidates. But before the vote, there was a fear that the voters will not be able to come to the center? He said that there is no such fear now.
Rajina Khatun, who came to cast her vote at the 9th Ward Center in Bera Municipality, said that she was apprehensive about coming to the polling station even though she was apprehensive about coming to the polling station due to several clashes between her uncle and nephew.
Asif Shams Ranjan, a boat candidate from Bera municipality, said, “People will elect me by a huge margin because they have confidence in Sheikh Hasina.” If I am the mayor, I will build Bera municipality as a model. He said that no candidate of the boat would occupy the center or cast a fake vote here.
Abdul Baten, the ‘rebel’ candidate for Bera municipality, said, ‘I have been the mayor of Bera municipality for 17 years. Developed as a model municipality. I have become a candidate in the face of the demands of the people to complete the unfinished work of building a modern city. Although the party nominee is my nephew, he is new and inexperienced in politics. It does not have much acceptance. No one will vote for him.
Chatmohar Upazila Election Officer Alamgir Hossain said all preparations have been made for fair and free voting. Voters have been voting for the candidate of their choice since morning. If any candidate tries to cause chaos, he will be brought under punishment.
Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police Masud Alam said the BGB and police force were on the ground to ensure peaceful polling in Union Parishads and a municipality in three Upazilas of Pabna. Besides, members of RAB, Ansar, and members of law enforcement agencies in white uniform are also deployed.
Deputy Commissioner Biswas Russell Hossain said that besides the striking force, necessary executive magistrates have been appointed in the election. We hope voters will be able to exercise their voting right in a peaceful environment.
