‘Amader Gaan’ is a folk music program organized by IPDC Finance Limited. As the third performance of the series, the popular song titled ‘Sorboto Mongolo Rade’ was released on Tuesday (October 20), song by Chanchal Chowdhury and Meher Afroz Shawon.
As soon as the song sung by Chanchal-Shawon was released on YouTube and Facebook, it started floating in praise on social media. However, shortly after its release, YouTube removed the song due to a copyright issue. From then on, the controversy started on social media.
It is known that the song ‘Sorboto Mongolo Rade’ belongs to the band Saralpur. But in the song sung by Chanchal-Shawon, ‘Sorboto Mongolo Rade’ is mentioned as a collected song. Apart from this, permission was not taken from the band. After that, the song of Chanchal-Shawon’s voice was removed by YouTube in response to the allegation of Tariqul Islam Tapan, the founding member of the band and the main gist.
After the incident, Saralpur band’s lead artiste Marjia Turin and lead gastristar Tariqul Islam Tapan in a video message on their Facebook requested IPDC Finance Limited to remove the song from all media. Otherwise, the band said it would take action according to the law. He also said that he will publish a written statement with the copyright documents of the song tomorrow.
In a written statement, when contacted by IPDC Finance Limited regarding such allegations, they told Natun News Monitor, “To claim the copyright of a song of the ‘Amader Gaan’ project organized by IPDC Finance Limited under the management of ‘Creato’.The matter has come to our notice.As a responsible organization, IPDC is committed to maintaining vigilance, integrity and transparency in any institutional activities and involvement. We request the concerned authorities and stakeholders to look into the whole matter.The ‘Amader Gaan’ project was initiated with the aim of reviving the practice of folk music, which is the very culture of the Bengalis and its rich cultural influence in the Bengali society. We want to move forward responsibly with the cooperation of all to fulfill our goal. Hopefully, this issue will be resolved soon and we urge our audience to wait patiently till then. ”
However, at the time of writing this report at 5 pm, the song ‘Sorboto Mongolo Rade’ sung by Chanchal-Shaon was being seen on Facebook titled ‘Amader Gaan’. Earlier in 2018, the band Saralpur had made the same allegation when musician Sumi Mirza sang the song without permission
