Pakistan plans to import more raw jute. In this case, Bangladesh is the first choice of the country.
A report in Pakistan’s influential media outlet The Dawn quoted a source close to the country’s government as saying.
Imran Khan’s government has decided to import jute from Bangladesh to keep the jute mills in trouble due to the suspension of trade relations with India and to meet the demand for jute products in the world market.
According to the Dawn report, besides Bangladesh, India is at the top in jute production. But India’s all-round bilateral trade relations with Pakistan have stalled. As a result, even if Pakistan wants, it will not be able to import jute from India at the moment.
Islamabad has already started pushing for import of jute from Dhaka under a free trade agreement, the Dawn report said. There was no word on when the import process would begin.
