A college student named Rakibul Islam Ratul (19) was allegedly hacked to death in Dhaka’s Mugda area after being called to settle the conflict between two groups of juvenile gangs.
The incident took place on Monday (October 31) around 8 pm. Later, he was rescued with serious injuries and first taken to Mugda Medical College, from where his condition worsened, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College (DMC) Hospital, where he was declared dead at around 12 pm by the doctor on duty.
Atiqur Rahman, the father of the deceased, said that there was trouble with others about senior-junior. Local youth gang leaders Hira and Rabiul call Ratul and his friends to settle the matter and attack them with sharp weapons. Accused Hira has several cases against him in Mugda police station, including a drug case. I lost my son. I want justice for this murder.
He also said that my son was a first-year student at Madartek Abdul Aziz High School & College. We currently live in the Nandipara area of Mugda.
When asked about this, Mugda Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Jamal Uddin Mir said that there was a senior-junior conflict over dominance in the area. There are frequent fights between Hira and Sojib groups. There was a fight between the two groups last Sunday as well. Yesterday Hira group called Sojib group to settle the matter. Later they came there and the Hira group hacked and injured Ratul. He later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
He also said that the deceased Rakibul Islam Ratul was a member of the Sojib group. Sojib group and Hira group try to dominate the area in different ways. A case is pending in this incident. The body has been kept in the hospital morgue. Operations are being conducted in various areas to catch the accused.
