Beans, brinjals, tomatoes, and carrots have gone beyond the purchasing power of common people in the raw markets of the upward-trending capital. Other vegetables have a minimum price of Tk 50. Radish is the cheapest available in the market.
Traders in Hatirpool and Shegunbagicha areas say that some winter vegetables have started arriving in the market. As supply is low, their prices skyrocket. However, the supply will return to normal by the end of this month. Then the market will stabilize and the price will also come down.
Beans are being sold at Tk 140 per kg today in these two markets of the capital during the weekend. Tomatoes imported from India cost Tk 130. Cannabis is being sold at Tk 140 per kg. Eggplant is being sold at Tk 60-100 per kg depending on the variety.
Besides, Lati 70 Tk, Snake gourd 60 Tk, Okra 70-80 Tk, Yardlong bean 60 Tk, Pointed gourd 55 Tk and Radish 50 Tk per kg are being sold. A kg of domestic green chili is selling at Tk 80, while Indian chili is selling at Tk 60.
Malabar spinach 25-30 Tk, Spinach Tk, Calabash vegetables 30 Tk, Water spinach, and Red amaranth vegetables are being sold at 20 Tk.
Tanveer, a vegetable trader in Hatirpool market, said that the price of some vegetables in the market has decreased and the price of some vegetables has increased during the week. Beans are a new vegetable in the market, so the price is a little higher. So far only beans from the Jhenaidah region are going to the market. Eggplant and tomato prices are the same as before. Last week also two vegetables were sold at the same price.
Meanwhile, objecting to the statement of the traders, Hamidul Haque, the buyer, said that the price of any vegetable has not decreased, but has increased. Bought Cauliflower for Tk 40 last week. Today it is being sold at Tk 60. The condition of the middle class is getting worse day by day.
