Information and Broadcasting Minister Dr. Hasan Mahmud said the Ministry of Information has prepared a draft policy on OTT platforms. The minister said this while interacting with reporters in the meeting room of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting at the Secretariat on Monday afternoon.
The Information Minister said, “One of the main functions of our Ministry is the regulatory job; To take forward the evolution of this media by formulating policies, policies. The OTT platform is a growing reality.
But there is still no approval for releasing movies, plays, web series, or any content on the OTT platform. I have met the Information and Broadcasting Minister on the recent visit to India on how they are looking after the matter. They issued a policy in the form of notification last February, from where all OTT platforms operating will have to follow the policy. Action will be taken if that policy is rejected. We have already prepared a preliminary draft of the policy. I hope to issue that policy in the form of a very Suddenly notification. ’
“Because 50 or 100 movies are released a year, it is easy to censor,” said Hasan Mahmud, referring to the difficult task Sensor through the censor board. But censoring thousands of CONTENT of OTT is not an easy task. That is why we have drafted a policy that will be issued in the form of notification after scrutiny in the same way as is being done in other countries including India.
This is so that no content that damages our culture, culture, traditions, or misleads society and people, encourages foreign culture, or misleads our young society. ’
On social media, Hasan Mahmood said, “Social media is currently connected to the media. Social media has given people a lot of opportunities to express themselves, and in many cases, it is also noteworthy for creating a variety of unrest in society, as an opportunity to spread propaganda against governments and individuals. Mainstream media is working properly, but social media has also tried to spread many rumors and mislead people even when they are from home and abroad. Our Ministry has already done a lot of work including starting an online news portal, IP TV registration to bring discipline in this regard. ’
The Information Minister said, “We can see that people sitting abroad are sometimes spreading propaganda using certain online portals. We take action against them by coordinating with other ministries on behalf of the government. In this case, there has always been no support from service providers who need to get the kind of support they need. For this, as we are discussing with service providers, we have decided to take action following the laws of individuals from countries from where this propaganda are carried out through various online portals. ’
Giving an example, the Minister said, “Reporters Sans Frontiers had published a report a few days ago using highly offensive words about the Prime Minister. We protested on behalf of the Information Ministry and we informed that if it is not amended, we will take legal action. ‘Reporters Sans Frontiers’ office is in Paris, France. Their legal notice has been sent through a French lawyer. According to French law, even according to European Union law, they cannot unnecessarily publish reports that take a particular person by taking a dig or targeting them. They have been given legal notices mentioning the relevant Laws of the European Union mentioning that section of French law. We have decided that similar measures will be taken against those doing these things from other countries as well. ’
