A bride has disappeared in Chatkhil of Noakhali after five days of marriage.
The bride’s family filed a general diary (GD) at Chatkhil police station on Wednesday (October 13) afternoon. Earlier on Tuesday night, the incident took place at Safi Ulya Bepari’s house in Bansa village of the Upazila.
According to local sources, Sajjat Hossain, 30, of the same Upazila got married to Sharmin Akter, 21, daughter of Abdul Jalil of Safi Ulya Bepari Bari in Bansa village of the Upazila on Friday (October 8). Last Tuesday (October 12), Sajjat went to visit his father-in-law’s house with his wife Sharmin. There, his wife Sharmin Akter gave Sajjat an anesthetic at night and the family members disappeared. At that time, Sharmin took with him a total of 10 lakh 80 thousand rupees, including 10 heavy gold ornaments, 50 thousand rupees, and 15 thousand foreign riyals. The victim’s mother said she received the news on Wednesday morning and went to Sajjat’s father-in-law’s house to find her son unconscious. Sajjat was later rescued and admitted to Chatkhil Upazila Health Complex.
Sharmin’s father Abdul Jalil was called on his mobile phone to find out about the incident but could not be reached. His eldest daughter Rumi received a phone call and admitted that Sharmin had fled, saying “we don’t know where or with whom he fled.”
Chatkhil Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Khair said a general diary (GD) has been kept in the incident. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
