In Mymensingh’s Bhaluka, 75,000 eggs were looted at gunpoint by stopping a pickup carrying eggs. The district detective police have arrested six robbers in the case filed in the incident.
The arrested are Khorshed Hossain Jewel (39) of Bharadoba area of Bhaluka, Sumon Mia (20) of the same area, Abdus Samad (31), and Abu Raihan (22) of Gopalpur area of Trishal, Enamul Haque Prabhat (23) and Sohag Ali ( 30).
On Saturday (June 11) at noon, the officer in charge of the District Detective Police (OC) Md. Shafiqul Islam provided this information. Earlier on Friday (June 10), the six robbers were arrested in a raid in different areas of the Mymensingh and Gazipur districts.
Detective Police OC Shafiqul Islam said a group of robbers came on Bharadoba road of the Upazila in two motorcycles and a private car at around 2:15 pm on May 30 and blocked a pickup carrying 75,000 chickens. At that time, the pickup driver Momin, his accomplice Sumon Mia and the manager Sobuj got out of the pickup in fear of sharp weapons, and the robbers were taken to the private car and blindfolded with towels. Later, they took the pickup about 7 km away from the spot, looted the eggs, and fled leaving the pickup.
A case was filed at Bhaluka Model Police Station the next day. The district detective police have been assigned to investigate the case. On Friday, a team of detectives raided various places in Gazipur and Mymensingh and arrested the six robbers. Private cars used for robbery, pickups used for carrying and selling looted eggs, and cash of Rs 1 lakh 12 thousand were recovered from the accused.
Shafiqul Islam further said that the day before the incident, the accused had united in Bhaluka’s Varadoba market and finalized the plan of robbery. He rented a private car as planned and caused the incident with a motorcycle. Gazipur Crossroads Raw Market later sold 37,000 eggs out of 75,000 looted eggs. He also said that efforts were being made to arrest the remaining eggs, sharp weapons used in the robbery, and other accused involved.
