Students demand renaming Rangpur Park Intersection as ‘Abu Sayeed Chattar’
Students demand renaming Rangpur Park Intersecti. Sayeed was killed in police firing during protests on Tuesday.
Students have come up with this demand on social media, changing their profiles and posting in various pages and groups to support the renaming.
As a result, Google Maps now displays the intersection as ‘Shaheed Abu Sayeed Chattar’.
Obaidur Rahman, a member of the BRU Rangpur Facebook Group, wrote, “The name of the Park Intersection has already been changed to ‘Shaheed Abu Sayeed Chattar’ on Google Maps. The rest is up to you. Will you honour him by using his name for the intersection or continue with the old name?”
Another student posted on Facebook, “From today, the name of Rangpur Park Intersection is Shaheed Abu Sayeed Chattar – General Students.”
On Tuesday afternoon, a clash occurred between quota reform activists, the police, and the Chhatra League. During the fight, Abu Sayeed was shot and later admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in a critical condition, where he was pronounced dead by doctors.
Abu Sayeed was a final year English student of the 12th batch at Begum Rokeya University.
His father, Mokbul Hossain, is an active member of the Awami League.
