In Noakhali’s Companiganj Upazila, a 15-year-old girl has been accused of gang-raping her by calling home for marriage. The victim’s mother filed a case with the Companiganj Police Station under the Women and Child Abuse Prevention Act on Tuesday (June 21) night accusing the two of the incident.
Earlier on Thursday (June 16), gang rape took place on the ground floor of the Rokeya Avenue building in the Master Para area of Ward 3 of Basurhat township of the Upazila.
The accused are Abu Dardah Bappi (25), son of Mizanur Rahman Sahab Uddin of the 8th ward of Basurhat township of Companiganj, and Md. Bepari Bari of 4th ward of Kabirhat township. Shobuj’s son Hridoy (28). Among them was the girl’s acquaintance with Bappi.
According to the mother of the teenager and the source of the case, the accused Bappi trades in clothes at Msjid Market in Basurhat Bazar. The girl developed a good relationship with him due to buying and selling in his shop. At one stage, he formed a love affair with the teenager’s mobile number. He later took her to his rented house and raped her more than once.
On June 16, Bappi called her to his rented house to finalize the marriage proposal when the teenager pressed for marriage. When the teenager went to the rented house, Bappi and his friend Hridoy, with the help of each other, took turns raping the teenager. In the end, they sent him home, fearing for his life.
The case also alleges that some influential people are pressuring the victim’s family to cover up the incident. Companiganj Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sadekur Rahman confirmed the matter of the case.
He said the girl’s mother had filed an FIR alleging gang rape. Today (Wednesday) morning the victim was sent to Noakhali General Hospital for a health check-up. The matter will be investigated and legal action will be taken.
