A woman has been raped while collecting blood for her ailing husband at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital in the capital. RAB-2 has arrested the accused rapist and his accomplice. RAB-2 ASP Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed this information to Bangla Tribune on Saturday (September 26).
He said, “Based on the information provided by the victim, the rapist Monowar Hossain Sajib (43) and his accomplice Mashnu Ara Begum Shilpi (40) were arrested from a house in Manipur area of Mirpur Police Station around 8 pm on September 25.” They have confessed to the rape. A case has been filed against them at Mirpur Model Police Station.
On September 15, at around 4 pm, a woman admitted her husband to the medicine department of Dhaka Suhrawardy Hospital. The doctor on duty there said she needed blood for her husband. The doctor advised him to donate blood urgently. As per the doctor’s instructions, he went to the front of the blood bank on the second floor of Suhrawardy Hospital to collect blood. He saw 3/4 men sitting in front of the blood bank. He wants them to know about (o +) blood. One of the occupants assured the woman that he would donate blood. His name is Monwar Hossain Sajib. Sajib took the woman to a flat in a house called Shifa Villa in Manipur Para of Mirpur around 1.30 pm on September 16. There lives a woman named Mashnu Ara Begum Shilpi.
The woman complained to RAB that Monwar Hossain Sajib threatened her and raped her at the house of Mashnu Ara Begum Shilpi. Sajib also threatened to strangle the victim if she told anyone about it and shouted.
Victim kept the matter of rape an immediate secret for fear of public embarrassment and her husband’s illness. On September 24, at around 7:30 pm, Sajib called the victim’s husband’s mobile phone and asked him to send the woman to the second floor of Suhrawardy Hospital for blood. Victim then told her husband about the rape for fear of being raped again.
The victim complained to the RAB-2 captain about this. A RAB team arrested Monowar Hossain alias Sajeeb and Mashnu Ara Begum alias Shilpi after getting the initial truth of the incident.
Accused Monowar Hossain alias Sajib said he had an extramarital affair with Mashnu Ara Begum alias Shilpi. Immoral activities take place in that house.
Arrested Monowar Hossain alias Sajib’s house is in Ramganj police station of Laxmipur. He currently lives in a house in Shawrapara. He went to Suhrawardy Hospital as his mother was ill. Mashnu Ara Begum Shilpi’s house is rented at Alfadanga in Faridpur, now Shifa Villa in Central Manipur. A case has been registered in this regard at Mirpur Model Police Station.
