The court sentenced two people to death in the murder case of principal Jamal Hossain Thandu in Sakhipur Upazila of Tangail.
Judge Begum Shahana Haque Siddiqa of the Special Judge’s Court in Tangail gave the verdict around 11 am on Wednesday, court inspector Tanveer Ahmed said.
Those sentenced to death are – Minhajur Rahman Mintu, son of deceased Hasan Ali, and Abdul Malek Shukur, son of Suryad Ali of the same village. Shukur was absconding at the time of the verdict.
Mohammad Mohsin Sikder, the lawyer for the state in the case, told reporters that on October 20, 2011, Principal Jamal Hussain Thandu left for home from Sakhipur Palashtali College. He was hacked to death by miscreants led by Minhazur Rahman Mintu due to the previous enmity.
Parveen Begum, the wife of Jamal Hossain Thandu, filed a murder case at Sakhipur Police Station as the plaintiff. On December 26, 2012, SI Ayub Ali of District DB Police filed a charge sheet against five people in court.
Lawyer Mohammad Mohsin Sikder said that the judge fined two people 50,000 rupees in addition to the death sentence. Apart from this, three people were acquitted.
