The Tamil film industry is in shock after the death of actor-director G Marimuthu, who played a role in the recent hit Jailer starring Rajinikanth. He died on Friday morning due to a heart attack. He was 57 years old.
G Marimuthu was dubbing for his TV serial Ethirneechal in Chennai when he collapsed around 8.30 am. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead. He had a large fan following for his dialogues in the TV serial. He had also worked as an assistant director with many famous filmmakers, including Mani Ratnam.
Many celebrities and fans expressed their grief and condolences on X (formerly known as Twitter). Actor Radikaa Sarathkumar tweeted, “So sad and shocked to hear of his passing of Marimuthu have worked with him a man with talent, gone so soon. Condolences to his family.”
G Marimuthu had a long and successful career in the film and television industry. He had acted in more than 50 movies and directed some films as well. He came to Chennai from his native village of Pasumalaitheri in Theni in 1990 with the dream of becoming a film director. He started his career as a waiter in hotels, but soon met lyricist Vairamuthu, who helped him get into the film industry. He worked as an assistant director with Rajkiran on films like Aranmanai Kili and Ellame En Rasathan. He later collaborated with other renowned directors like Vasanth, Seeman, and SJ Surya. He also co-directed Silambarasan’s Manmadhan.
