Middle Eastern country United Arab Emirates has announced to be strict on begging after the holy month of Ramadan. The country has issued a new warning saying that those who beg will be severely punished.
According to the laws of the Arab Emirates, begging is a punishable offense. Anyone who commits this offense is liable to imprisonment for three months or a maximum fine of 5 thousand Dirhams. Which is around 1.50.000 TK in Bangladeshi currency.
The Public Prosecution of the Arab Emirates insists that begging in any form is strictly prohibited. And those who are caught in the crime of begging will be brought under sure punishment. The Public Prosecution further warned that if a healthy person begs, begs despite means of livelihood, tries to get mercy by pretending to be injured or disabled, or is caught soliciting aid on the pretense of helping a third party— That is trueThe punishment given to beggars will be more severe than that. Dubai Police launched their annual campaign against begging earlier this week. Basically, during the month of Ramadan, the law and order forces are more active against it as begging increases.
Dubai Police said in a press conference last week that they arrested 604 people last Ramadan. 382 of them were beggars. 222 were illegal traders, who tried to trade on the sidewalks or streets during Ramadan without permission.
