The government has taken initiative to set up a 5G network across the country to provide modern technology services to every village. To this end, Teletalk Bangladesh Limited (TBL) is going to undertake a project costing Tk 2,204.39 crore.
The project will be presented for final approval at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (August 10th). The meeting will be chaired by Prime Minister and ECNEC Chairperson Sheikh Hasina via video conference from Ganobhaban. At the end of the meeting, Planning Minister MA Mannan and State Minister for Planning. Shamsul Alam will hold a joint press conference.
According to the Planning Commission, Teletalk’s ‘4G’ network, which currently exists in urban areas, will be extended to the Union to provide high-speed Forge Internet services to people in rural areas at affordable prices. This project has been undertaken to ensure 5G technology-based mobile service in every village of Bangladesh.
According to sources, the initiative has been taken under the network expansion project to expand Teletalk’s network at the village level and provide 5G services. The project will be implemented from April 2021 to November 2023. Teletalk Bangladesh Limited will implement the project of the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology.
The project is being undertaken with four goals in mind. These are- bringing every village of the country under the service of modern technology, transforming every youth of the country into skilled manpower with technology knowledge, bringing every service on a digital platform to build a corruption-free Bangladesh and work against cyber risk to do.
Sources in the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology said that the commercial activities of Bangabandhu Satellite will be ensured during the implementation of the project. The Department of Posts and Telecommunications is working tirelessly to ensure that all the people of the country, irrespective of town and village, benefit from modern technology services
The main activities of the proposed project are the purchase of 9,410 sets of telecommunication equipment, construction of 3,000 BTS sites, preparation of 100 sites for transmission hubs, purchase of electrical equipment, customer care, and purchase of furniture.
In this context, a member of the Department of Physical Infrastructure (Secretary) of the Planning Commission. Mamun-al-Rashid said the project would be presented to the ECNEC meeting for approval. Teletalk is a government organization. Other private and foreign operators provide services for business purposes. With Teletalk, it will be possible to control the rest. Teletalk does not have 5G in the village. There are 2G and 3G. Existing infrastructure will be utilized. Besides, 5G equipment will also be purchased in the village under the project.
