A fire at a Kovid hospital in Bharuch, Gujarat, has killed 18 Covid patients. The hospital caught fire around 1 pm on Friday. According to Bharuch Superintendent of Police Rajendrasin Churasama, “those patients died due to fire and smoke from the fire.”
The Kovid Hospital is located on the Bharuch-Jambusa Highway. A total of 70 corona-infected patients were admitted to the four-story hospital at the time of the fire. 24 of them were in ICU. After the fire broke out, locals and firefighters rescued the rest and took them to a nearby hospital.
The fire broke out on one floor of the hospital at around 1 am and then spread. The fire was brought under control within an hour. The police officer said, “It was reported at 8:30 am that 18 people were killed. Of those, 12 died at the time of the blaze. The death of the other six was not due to the fire or the time of transfer to another hospital, it is not yet known for sure. It is unknown at this time what caused the fire.
However, according to ANI, 16 people died in the blaze. Among them are 14 corona patients and two nurses of the hospital.
