Brombhodoitya Movie Review: Has just been released on the OTT platform Heechee. How frightened was the Bengali supernatural in the crowd of demon-possessed western ghosts at the turn of the mystery-thriller?
Director- Abhirup Ghosh
Starring Saini Ghosh, Rudranil Ghosh, Anindya Chatterjee
Do we have as much headache with ghost fourteen as we do with ghost ghosts or Halloween party in western culture? It is important to raise this question at the beginning of the review. Because, the director has tied the story of the film with the timeless incorporeal character Brahmaditya of Bengali folklore. Suspense, horror, thrill… these are all there, but it is very important to raise an issue as well. That is, as much as there is insanity among the viewers about Hollywood horror movies, isn’t there a lot of Bengali ghosts there? From that point of view, we have to applaud the efforts of director Abhirup Ghosh, who has tried to make the audience feel creepy by picking up ‘Brombhodoitya ’ from the pages of his childhood book. No matter how unrealistic, supernatural thoughts may crowd your head while watching a movie, there is no denying it.
At one time he spent his childhood listening to the stories of vampires, Brombhodoitya, Mamdo and Shakchunni from the pockets of his grandparents. But now the era has changed. Video games, those Bengali ghosts of Ratdupur who got a good night’s sleep seem to be lost in the violence of superheroes. The director has tried to bring back that lost childhood by holding the hand of ‘Brombhodoitya’.
Avirup has woven ‘Brombhodoitya’ in the contemporary context keeping in mind the present generation. In addition to suspense, horror, thriller, this film has the story of an emotional journey. Director Saini Ghosh has tried to portray the bullying that children sometimes face. Mystery, thrill, thrill are all there. But somewhere, the exaggeration of the movie characters is noticeable. In the life of working in the IT sector, a ‘Brombhodoitya’ suddenly appeared. Who brought the ghost by ordering from a website called ‘ghost.com’ as a joke. Then he had to witness the murder, various strange incidents. Harassment begins, fear of life…! Is it possible to run away and get the Brombhodoitya down from the neck? This picture tells that story.
Besides the main character Saini Ghosh, Rudranil Ghosh has also caught the eye of the Tantric character in a short time. One last thing, the director’s idea of ’Let’s Celebrate Bengali’ is quite ‘out of the box’! If you want to float in the image of ghost, creepy feeling, you can sit in the house with popcorn and cold drinks.
