Bangladesh has become a lower middle-class country as measured by GNI per capita. Various NGOs in Bangladesh play a very important role in the socio-economic development of the country. They increase the country’s annual income exponentially. NGOs have contributed a lot to the development of the country by carrying out various social activities.

1. Beximco group

One of the largest business organizations in Bangladesh. It was founded in 1972 by Salman F. Rahman and his brother. Currently, the company has around 50,000 employees.

The main businesses of the group of companies are ceramics, pharmaceuticals, textiles, jute, information technology, aviation, media, finance, real estate, construction, and energy.

The Beximco Group is part of the Dhaka Stock Exchange and the Chittagong Stock Exchange and has a market capitalization of around $300 million. The company’s pharmaceutical division, called Beximco Pharma, is listed on the London Stock Exchange. Owned by Salman F Rahman and his brother, the group has a combined net worth of around $2 billion.

2. ACI group

It is one of the largest companies in Bangladesh. The organization operates in three departments. The three segments are pharmaceuticals, consumer brands and agribusiness. ACI was established in 1968 as part of Imperial Chemical Industries (ICI) in East Pakistan. Incorporated in Bangladesh in 1973. Mr. M Anis Ud Dowla is the founder of ACI, which currently employs around 5,000 people.

3. Basundara group

One of the largest groups in Bangladesh is the Basundara group. It was founded by Mr. Ahmed Akbar Sabahan. It began operations in 1987 as a real estate company, East West Property Development Limited (EWPD). In the 1990s, they started new businesses, including cement, paper, pulp, tissue, and steel. It currently has approximately 15,000 employees.

4. Plaza Group

In 1958, Samson H Chowdhury and three of his friends founded the Square Group as a private company. It went public in 1991 and is currently listed on the Dhaka Stock Exchange. It has maintained a strong leadership position in the pharmaceutical industry in Bangladesh since 1985. It is currently becoming the best performing group in the world.

5. Abu Kaer Group

Abul Khair Group is one of the largest companies in Bangladesh. It started in 1953 as a tobacco marketing company. As the group is headquartered in the commercial capital of Chittagong, its operations are now linked to a number of companies. Consumer goods, steel, cement, ceramics, marble, shipping, and trade are currently the company’s areas of expertise.
