Kangana Ranaut, who is set to play former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in her upcoming film ‘Emergency’, has announced that the release of the movie has been pushed to next year. The actress, who is also the writer and director of the film, cited changes in her schedule as the reason for the delay.
Ranaut took to her official X page on Monday to share the news with her fans. She wrote, “We have announced the Emergency release date as 24th November 2023 but because of all the changes in my back-to-back releasing films calendar and over-packed last quarter of 2024 we have decided to shift Emergency to next year (2024)”.
She added that the new release date will be announced soon and thanked her followers for their support and love.
‘Emergency’ is a biopic based on the life and times of Indira Gandhi, who was the first and only female Prime Minister of India. The film will depict the controversial period of Emergency, which was declared by Gandhi in 1975 and lasted till 1977. The film will also feature actors like Arjun Rampal, Divya Dutta, Prakash Jha, and others in pivotal roles.
Ranaut has been sharing glimpses of her transformation into Indira Gandhi on her social media platforms. She has also revealed that she has done extensive research for the film and has met many people who were close to Gandhi.
The actress has been busy with multiple projects in recent times. She has recently wrapped up the shooting of ‘Tejas’, in which she plays an Indian Air Force pilot. She is also awaiting the release of ‘Dhaakad’, an action thriller co-starring Arjun Rampal and Divya Dutta. She will also be seen in ‘Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda’, a sequel to her 2019 film ‘Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi’.
