Local Government Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam said that the Kawran market will be shifted so that the traders do not suffer any kind of loss.
He said this while visiting the Gabtali Raw market under Dhaka North City Corporation on Thursday (July 21).
He said I was in Jatrabari yesterday (Wednesday). Visited the Raw market, and came to Gabtali today. We will discuss with the two mayors and determine our next steps. We are moving forward with our work. We will move the Kawran market keeping in mind that there is no harm to anyone at all. One part of this market will go to Jatrabari and another part will come to Gabtali.
When will this program start – Tajul Islam said in response to questions from journalists, that there are many challenges here. But we have started discussions, reviewing the pros and cons overall. It’s a bit difficult to say exactly when the transfer will happen, but I’ve started working. This program is progressing with collective efforts.
The local government minister said that the capital Dhaka has unplanned construction and wholesale-retail markets. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, the work of developing them in a planned manner has started. For that purpose, the work of shifting the wholesale markets to the outer parts of the city has started. Modern and standardized new wholesale markets are being built. However, special importance is being given to ensuring that the businessmen are not harmed and the people are not suffering anew. Solving one problem creates another problem. We have to solve that too.
In response to another question, he said that the mayors of Dhaka will prepare the list of how many retail markets there will be in the city and where they will be placed. Wholesale markets will be shifted to the outskirts of the city. Temporary markets cannot be set up anywhere in the city without planning. Legal action will be taken against those who set up unauthorized markets.
During the visit to Dhaka North City Corporation Mayor Atiqul Islam, DNCC Chief Executive Officer Salim Reza, Chief Engineer Brigadier General Muh. Amir and local councillors were present.
