King Charles III has expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for personally attending the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom.
King Charles expressed his gratitude in a telephone call from Buckingham Palace in London, the United Kingdom on Saturday evening local time.
He thanked the President and Prime Minister as well as the people of Bangladesh for expressing their sincere condolences and sympathy to the royal family after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said, “Your late Highness was like a mother to me and an extraordinary head of the Commonwealth.” To pay my respect to him, I decided to attend his state funeral.
The Prime Minister also informed the King that his government in Bangladesh observed three days of state mourning to pay respect to the late queen and special prayers were offered for the repose of her soul.
He congratulated King Charles III on his accession to the throne and wished him a long and prosperous reign.
King Charles (then Prince Charles) recalled his visit to Bangladesh in 1997 and told the Prime Minister, that Bangladesh is preparing to welcome King Charles and the Queen consort next month on the occasion of 50 years of Bangladesh-United Kingdom diplomatic relations.
In response, King Charles said, “The Queen consort and I were very much looking forward to the 50th-anniversary visit to Bangladesh, but unfortunately we have to cancel it due to recent events.
The King greeted the people of Bangladesh and the Bangladeshi British expatriates.
Buckingham Palace scheduled a phone call for the new king to speak personally with the Bangladeshi prime minister, who is on a state visit to the United Kingdom to attend the late Queen Elizabeth’s state funeral on Monday.
