Taylor Swift has reunited with her ex-boyfriend and former co-star Taylor Lautner in her latest music video for “I Can See You”, one of the previously unreleased songs from her re-recorded album Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
The music video, which premiered on Friday night during Swift’s Eras tour stop in Kansas City, features Lautner as a bank robber who falls in love with Swift, a hostage who helps him escape. The video also stars Presley Cash and Joey King as Lautner’s accomplices.
Swift directed the music video herself and invited Lautner, Cash and King to join her on stage to introduce it to the fans. She thanked Lautner for being “incredible” and doing his own stunts, and also thanked his wife Tay Lautner (formerly Taylor Dome) for being “so awesome to hang with on set”. She joked that it was “The Tale of 3 Taylors”, referring to the three people named Taylor involved in the project.
Swift and Lautner shared a hilarious photo of them pointing at each other, along with Tay Lautner, on their social media accounts, inspired by the popular Spider-Man meme. They also expressed their excitement and gratitude for being part of Swift’s vision.
Swift and Lautner met on the set of the romantic comedy Valentine’s Day in 2009, where they played high school sweethearts. They dated for a few months before breaking up in December 2009. Swift later apologized to Lautner in her song “Back to December”, which is also included in Speak Now (Taylor’s Version).
The fans loved the music video and praised Swift for bringing back Lautner, who is best known for playing werewolf Jacob Black in the Twilight saga. They also commented on the chemistry between the two Taylors and the action-packed storyline of the video.
“I Can See You” is one of the six songs “from the vault” that Swift added to Speak Now (Taylor’s Version), which is her third re-recorded album following Fearless (Taylor’s Version) and Red (Taylor’s Version). The album also features collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Chris Stapleton and Phoebe Bridgers.
