A large number of houses caught fire in the seven-storey slum of Mohakhali in the capital on Monday night. 12 units of fire service are working to control the fire.
The fire started at 11:47 pm on Monday. Ershad Hossain, duty officer of the control room of the fire service, confirmed the matter and said that a fire broke out in a seven-storey slum next to the Mohakhali Infectious Diseases Hospital. Upon receiving the news, first 5 units of fire service were sent. As the intensity of the fire increased, more units were sent later. A total of 12 units of the fire service are working to control the fire.
Witnesses said there were slums, plastic shops and shops selling medicines where the fire broke out. Thousands of curious people have to get up to speed to put out the fire. Later additional police force was brought in to remove them. People were seen removing goods in the fire.
Intensity was higher on the south and southeast sides of the slums. As there is no water source in the vicinity, the fire has to be extinguished.
The control room said at 1:15 pm that the damage and the onset of the fire were not known. No casualties were reported.
