Police have issued a stern warning to the third sex population in the capital for their controversial activities. Legal action will be taken against members of the third sex if they do anything that harasses the general public, according to the police headquarters.
Monday (July 12) at the Police Headquarters, Media and Public Relations AIG. Sohel Rana said this in a press release.
Recently, a resident at the Pallabi police station in Mirpur complained that he and his family had been harassed by people of the third sex. The police made such a statement based on this allegation.
In the capital, members of this community are regularly seen collecting money from passengers of public buses, rickshaws, and cars, shopkeepers, and peddlers sitting on the road. The issue has come to the stage of open extortion. There were also allegations of harassment when someone refused to pay. Recently, their presence in residential houses has also increased. Many are annoyed by their aggressive behavior.
According to the complainant, people of the third sex come to the house in groups when they get the news of Eid or the birth of a child. They usually demand a subscription of up to Rs 2,000-3,000. Most of the time they are harassed by someone who refuses to pay them.
Based on the allegations, police contacted the local third gender chief. The warning was later issued by the media and public relations department at the police headquarters.
Note that according to government statistics, there are 10,000 third-gender people in Bangladesh. According to another survey, the number is much higher than 10,000 and it is close to 50,000. Recently the government has been trying to rehabilitate and make them operational. Apart from the government, some non-governmental organizations are also working for the development of third-gender people.
